Rutgers Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM)
and New Brunswick Program in American Language Studies (PALS-NB)
Collaborate in Creating Unique International Training Program
The Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) and the Program in American Language Studies (PALS-NB) have teamed up to provide a unique training program for foreign students. The five-week summer program provides undergraduate and graduate students from China the unique opportunity to study biotechnology and proteomics, as well as English and American culture at Rutgers University. Lectures in Proteomics and Functional Genomics are supported by laboratory experiences in molecular biology, protein chemistry, bioinformatics, NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Students also participate in written and spoken language training classes offered by PALS. Last year a total of 15 students from Jiangnan University, Wuxi, China attended the program. This year’s program started Monday July 8th, 2013 with seven students from the same university attending. The program is enhanced by several scientific research collaborations that have been established between the School of Biotechnology, Jiangnan University and the laboratory of Prof. Gaetano Montelione at the CABM Rutgers, which have already resulted in scientific publications, United States and Chinese patent applications, and research funding from the Chinese government to Jiangnan University.
